Gait and Locomotion Analysis

Gait and Locomotion Analysis

Gait is analyzed to understand the effects of disease and injuries on animal movement.  At our EAPL location, we have multiple means of quantifying motion including: 2 force plates, a Tekscan pressure walkway (Strideway), a Qualisys kinematic system, and a Companion stance analyzer for small to medium-sized animals.

If interested in any of these services, please contact Tanya Garcia-Nolen.

Canine Gait Kinetics Collection

The service provides collection of weight-bearing force (kinetics) of small quadrupeds (sheep, dogs, cats) during their gait.  The data provides an objective way to accurately measure the animal's pain, or other musculoskeletal/neurological function that affects their gait. This is provided at a rate of $90/session.

Canine Gait Kinematics Collection

The service provides limb or body motion (kinematics) in addition to the kinetics collection of small quadrupeds (sheep, dogs, cats) during their gait. The data provides a way to perform more detailed analysis on how the movement of the animal may be impacted by disease or injury. This is provided at a rate of $232/session.

Canine Gait Electromyography Collection

The service provides collection of muscle activation of animals during their gait.  The data provides an objective way to accurately measure the animal's muscular function. This is provided at a rate of $46/session.

Canine Gait Data Reduction

The service provides full data reduction of kinetics, kinematics, or electromyography collected from animals during their gait.  This complementary service is provided at a rate of $74/hr.

Equine Force Plate Collection

The service provides collection of weight-bearing force (kinetics) of large quadrupeds during either standing still or during gait.  The data provides an objective way to accurately measure the animal's pain, or other musculoskeletal/neurological function that affects their weight-bearing or gait. This is provided at a rate of $90/session.
