Consultations and Expertise
Musculoskeletal Specimen Examination & Consultation
The service provides an orthopedic or musculoskeletal post-mortem specimen examination by an expert veterinary professor or clinician. Typically, this will be an analysis of injury or surgical repair beyond what veterinary pathologists do. This service specializes in racehorse injury and orthopedic surgery-related evaluations. This is provided at a rate of $189/hour.
If interested, please contact Dr. Stover or Tanya Garcia-Nolen.
Computer-Aided/ Virtual Surgical Planning
The service provides custom software and expertise to convert a 3D medical image to a virtual 3D object. The object can be manipulated to virtually perform surgery (typically orthopedic) and allows for other 3D objects (surgical instruments or implants) to interact with the image allowing for pre-planning or custom guides to be made. Canine orthopedic surgical planning can guide construction prior to real surgery to fit orthopedic implants in 3D or to plan a complex operation. This is provided at a rate of $312/specimen.
If interested, please contact Tanya Garcia-Nolen or Dr. Marcellin-Little.
Data Reduction, Custom Software, & Bio-Statistical Analysis
The service is to reduce data or design software to allow a student/staff/faculty to reduce data from either mechanical testing, medical imaging modalities, or biomechanical motion-capture/gait software. In addition, statistical analysis may be performed on the data. Because research in orthopedics, biomedical imaging, biomechanical testing is often custom, custom software may be required to analyze it or there may be large amounts which can be better analyzed in a graphical or batch mode. This is provided at a rate of $54/hr.
